Keanu Reeves Unveils Dark New Novel The Book of Elsewhere — A Brutal, Immortal Saga With John Wick Energy

Keanu Reeves is proving that his creative universe doesn’t end on screen.

The John Wick icon has officially announced a brand-new historical fantasy novelThe Book of Elsewhere, a bold literary expansion of his cult-favorite comic series BRZRKR — and fans are already calling it his most ambitious project yet.

Reeves, 59, revealed the news in a special video message shared with Good Morning America, confirming that the novel is a full spinoff of the BRZRKR world and will be released in July 2024. But this isn’t a solo experiment. Reeves has teamed up with China Miéville, one of the most acclaimed and boundary-pushing fantasy writers of the modern era.

The collaboration alone sent shockwaves through the literary and pop culture worlds.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to announce that I’ve partnered with one of my favorite authors, China Miéville,” Reeves said. “The series tells the story of an immortal warrior’s fight through the ages, and I love the world of BRZRKR so much that I wanted to explore it further.”

That exploration, Reeves explained, demanded a new medium.

And a novel was the perfect weapon.

A Violent Immortal, Reimagined on the Page

The Book of Elsewhere draws its DNA directly from BRZRKR, the ultra-violent comic series Reeves launched in 2021 alongside writer Matt Kindt and artist Ron Garney. The series became an instant hit, selling hundreds of thousands of copies and cementing Reeves as more than just a Hollywood star — but a serious storyteller.

At the center of the story is “B”, an immortal warrior who has survived 80,000 years of bloodshed, war, and brutality. Half-god, half-human, B is cursed to violence, unable to escape his endless cycle of destruction — even as it chips away at his sanity.

The novel takes that mythos deeper, darker, and more introspective.

While details of the plot remain tightly guarded, Reeves has hinted that The Book of Elsewhere leans heavily into history, memory, and the psychological toll of immortality — themes longtime fans will recognize as classic Keanu territory.

“If you read it,” Reeves added quietly, “I hope you love it.”

China Miéville Enters the BRZRKR Universe

For Miéville, a New York Times–bestselling author known for complex, genre-defying worlds, the collaboration was unexpected — and thrilling.

“Sometimes the greatest games are those you play with other people’s toys,” Miéville said in a statement. “It was an honor, a shock and a delight when Keanu invited me to play.”

What surprised him most wasn’t the scope of the universe — it was Reeves himself.

“I could never have predicted how generous he’d be with toys he’s spent so long creating,” Miéville said. “How open he was to true collaboration.”

Reeves echoed that sentiment, praising Miéville for arriving with “clear architecture” and a fearless vision for expanding the BRZRKR world beyond its original form.

The result, according to both creators, is a novel that stands on its own — even for readers unfamiliar with the comics.

From Comics to Netflix — and Now Literature

The Book of Elsewhere is just the latest evolution of the BRZRKR franchise.

Netflix previously announced it is developing a live-action BRZRKR feature film starring Reeves, along with a spinoff anime series, transforming the story into a multi-platform saga.

Netflix’s official description of the franchise calls it “a brutally epic saga” centered on an immortal being who agrees to work for the U.S. government, fighting missions deemed too violent and dangerous for anyone else — in exchange for answers about his cursed existence and how it might finally end.

Sound familiar?

Fans have already drawn comparisons between BRZRKR’s lonely, relentless warrior and John Wick — a man defined by violence, grief, and the search for peace in a world that won’t let him have it.

Keanu Reeves, the Quiet Architect

While Reeves is famously understated, The Book of Elsewhere marks a clear shift: he’s no longer just starring in dark stories — he’s building them.

From comics to novels to Netflix adaptations, Reeves is crafting a legacy that spans mediums, genres, and generations. And unlike many celebrity side projects, this one carries real literary weight.

July 2024 can’t come soon enough.

Because if there’s one thing fans know by now, it’s this:

When Keanu Reeves says “I hope you love it,” it’s usually worth paying attention.
