LOS ANGELES — In their first on-screen collaboration, Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogen team up for the upcoming comedy Good Fortune, directed by Aziz Ansari. The film, a spiritual comedy with a fantastical twist, explores themes of class, compassion, and the chaos that ensues when heaven decides to meddle in human lives.

Reeves plays Gabriel, a low-ranking angel with smaller wings and modest duties — like saving people from choking or texting while driving. But Gabriel longs for something more meaningful.
“I play a character named Gabriel who’s a lower-order angel,” Reeves explained. “My duties are small, but I want to do more. When I see Aziz’s character, Arge, I think he’s a lost soul, so I try to help him — but that’s when everything starts to go wrong.”
In the story, Gabriel swaps the lives of Arge (played by Aziz Ansari) — a struggling college graduate living in his car — and Jeff (played by Seth Rogen) — a wealthy venture capitalist who thinks of himself as a good person but is blind to how hard others have it.
“We switch lives,” Rogen said. “Jeff’s rich and self-satisfied. Arge is broke and desperate. The angel thinks this will teach them something — but it doesn’t quite go as planned.”
Once the swap happens, the comedy unfolds fast. Jeff suddenly finds himself in Arge’s shoes — literally — scraping by, washing dishes, and struggling to survive. Meanwhile, Arge enjoys his sudden upgrade and refuses to give it up.
“Gabriel expects Arge to learn the honor of being poor,” Rogen laughed. “But after a week, he realizes there’s nothing honorable about it and doesn’t want to switch back.”
For Reeves, the film’s message about empathy and perspective stood out.
“It’s about walking in someone else’s shoes,” Reeves said. “Gabriel learns too — he sees why people lose hope when life feels impossible. The movie’s funny, but it’s also sensitive and respectful about what it means to struggle.”
Ansari’s script blends sharp humor with heartfelt lessons — something that instantly drew Reeves in.
“It’s funny, but it’s about something,” Reeves shared. “It talks about life in a sincere and thoughtful way — but it’s also got that great, clever comedy from Aziz and Seth. I was really honored to be a part of it.”
Rogen said casting Reeves as an angel was “perfect.”
“Keanu has this ethereal quality — he kind of projects an angelic presence,” Rogen said. “He’s got this calm, almost Jesus-like look to him. It just made sense.”
The two actors clearly enjoyed working together. Reeves called Rogen a “big mind” with “amazing range,” while Rogen said seeing Reeves take on an R-rated comedy role for the first time was “a thrill.”
“Keanu can go big, fun, sensitive — there’s really nothing he can’t do,” Reeves added.
“And for fans, I think it’s exciting to see him in something totally different. He’s hilarious.”
Rogen agreed:
“He hasn’t done a straight-up R-rated comedy, maybe ever,” he said. “And the story itself — wanting your life to be different — that’s something everyone can relate to.”
With a blend of heart, absurdity, and cosmic mischief, Good Fortune looks poised to deliver exactly what its title promises — a little luck, a little chaos, and a lot of laughter.
