Billy Joel’s daughter Alexa Ray shared a positive update about his health amid his battle with a rare brain disorder.

Last May, the Uptown Girl singer, 76, announced that he was canceling all concerts after being diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH).

On Thursday, his daughter, 40, shared that he is ‘doing great’ in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, before hitting the stage later in the night to honor him with a performance at Carnegie Hall.

‘He’s doing physical therapy regularly,’ she shared, adding that Joel has ‘lost weight as he’s on his diet.’

‘I’m so proud of him. He’s such a trooper, so resilient and committed to being healthy and proactive. He’s a fighter. He’s always been a fighter and talks in his documentary about how life’s like a fight.’

The hitmaker is a father-of-three, having welcomed eldest daughter Alexa Ray during his marriage to ex-wife Christie Brinkley, 72. He has since expanded his brood with current wife Alexis Roderick, 43, with the couple raising daughters Della Rose, 10, and Remy Anne, eight.

Alexa Ray honored her father with a performance at Carnegie Hall’s The Music of Billy Joel tribute event on Thursday night.

The father and daughter duo looked stylish at the show, with Alexa Ray wowing in a strapless fringe dress and white opera gloves.

Meanwhile Joel wore a classic black suit and tie.

‘He was so excited when he first played Carnegie Hall in the ‘70s, so it’s exciting for him to come back decades later and see amazing artists and his daughter pay tribute to him,’ she shared ahead of the event. ‘It’s a full-circle moment.’

The star-studded tribute, presented by promoter Michael Dorf, also featured Pink, Rob Thomas, Wyclef Jean, Matt Nathanson, Gavin DeGraw, Bettye LaVette, Rufus Wainwright, Andrew McMahon, Marc Roberge, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Jon McLaughlin, Tanya Tucker, Itzhak Perlman, Sammy Rae, and Neal Francis.

Alexa Ray revealed that she was the one to persuade him to attend the event.

‘I said, “Dad, you better be there! This is Carnegie Hall. Everyone’s paying tribute to you, and it’s an amazing group of artists.”‘

‘He was like, “Let me mark that down.” He’s very organized with his little calendar.’

Joel opened up about his diagnosis last year.

NPH is a brain disorder that causes fluid buildup and affects function. Common symptoms include problems with walking and balance, memory loss and difficulty with planning, organizing and multitasking, per the Cleveland Clinic. Vision issues and hearing loss can also occur.

‘I know a lot of people are worried about me and my health, but I’m okay,’ he told People in July. ‘What I have is something very few people know about, including me, no matter how much you try to research it.’

‘I’m doing my best to work with it and to recover from it,’ he added.

He said he suspected something was wrong with him earlier in the year when his balance was off kilter. ‘It was like being on a boat all the time,’ he added.

Last year also marked the release of his HBO documentary, Billy Joel: And So It Goes, in which he admitted he was ‘devastated’ by his split from Brinkley.

Joel was married to the supermodel between 1985 and 1994, and he loved the first few years of their romance.

‘Here I am dating this beautiful supermodel and … me? I’m from Hicksville. What am I doing with her? What’s she doing with me? But that was a very productive time for me. I wrote a lot of songs for her. She was a muse,’ he said in the film.

‘It was like being a teenager all over again. Experiencing those same emotions that I had when I was first discovering romance and love.’

Joel remembered the first few years of their romance being ‘so much fun.’

However, he admitted that his music career and the stresses of fame took a toll on their relationship.

He said: ‘I was in a relationship with someone who I cared deeply about. But I was not able to be at home. I was not able to be with my family. It was a very sad time for me.’

‘I realized love is not concrete. You feel like it is, but there are things eating away at it. And in the end, it all catches up. It’s hard. I was so devastated.’

The Longest Time crooner went on to marry chef and critic Katie Lee in 2004 but they divorced in 2009.

Joel has been married to current wife Roderick since 2015.

In his HBO documentary, Joel referred to her as his saving grace for the stability she brings to his life.
